Thank you to Jessica of Lonsdale Bulldogs for allowing me to share this here! It is beautifully written and really answers the question of ‘Is the Leavitt a good family dog?’ In an honest and clear way. -Kerry
These are all photo of our dogs, with my children, genuine moments of love, comfort and fun.
These photos are often the images people see when looking at my dogs and contact me with the decision that they are the breed for them.
Of course that’s a huge compliment, it’s what we pride ourselves on; Solid, stable and genuine family dogs. I am a mother it’s my absolute priority.
But what these photos don’t show is the constant structure, training, guidance and exercise our dogs need to be this brilliant. They are like this because we breed them to be like this, yes, that’s a big part, but also even bigger aspect is because we raise them this way. We train them, keep them active, work really really hard every day to ensure they are good dogs.
The Leavitt Bulldog is an active, intelligent at times demanding breed, that will push boundaries and test your patience. It’s really important people researching the breed understand that they are not a replacement or an alternative breed to KC bulldog type. They are their own breed, suited to active, enthusiastic families who want a dog to live life the full with.
Please remember there is always more than just an snap of a moment, and normally hard work, love, commitment and passion. All absolutely crucial in having a family dog like this.
